Best way to level crosshairs?

Until my son dropped it, I used a shot culminator.  I put my rifle in my rest, put the spud in the end of the tube, and saw if the crosshairs are inline with the grid lines on the culminator.
 
When the lines are matched exact, the scope is level.  This proved very helpful when using Weaver top mount rings.
