Out to 600 yards MAX. Mostly bench rest competition, Hunter Class, with rifle taped at 6 x at 100 and 200 yards. And shooting for group at 100 yards.

Ok. You will want the added magnification, but you will also want adjustable elevation, and windage. I think the Bushy has finger adjustable. But not true target turrets.

If you are restricted to 6x it comes down to do you want tenth mil clicks or quarter minute clicks.  The SS has a lot more internal adjustment.  The glass is about the same to my eye.
If you will mostly shoot paper you may want the added magnification to see holes in the target unless you already have a good spotting scope.  There is a big differencs in size to the ss is a fairly compact scope the more comparable Bushnell with target knobs is a larger scope.

Thank you for the replies. I think I will stick with my original plan to go with the SS. Like I said, I will be mostly competing with the scope taped at 6X magnification, and the SS has such a good rep...

Rifle is almost complete. Just absent the scope.

Just need to find the right time to convince my wife it is okay to spend $550 more dollars, for something that she claims will "Just sit in the gun safe." HA

Would you spend the extra $175 and get this for my application instead?

You gain a fine duplex reticle and some higher magnification.  You loose the Mil Dot for in FFP with matching turrents for adjustment.  On 6x the Mil Dot is not real thick but its not a Duplex Fine either.  I have a SS 3-9 FFP I use on a Coyote Rifle and I like it a lot.  I am not familiar with a Hunter Class shooting on 6x ... If I was shooting for groups at 100 and 200 on 6x and max range of 600 was the only application for the Rifle ... My choice in that price range would be ....

Not sure if that is Z reticle they have "setup" for 308 but I know one of them is.  It might not be exact on the holds but some test groups with different ammo and you will find the sweet spot for the associated ranges.

Welcome to the never ending Optics struggle - I finally gave in and went with a couple USO SN-3 ... it was blissfully painful ... Whacko

If you are going to shoot class restricted stuff, then get the Leupold 6x with match knobs.

If they would offer it with a mil-mil set up, it would probably sell! But I don't believe the new M-5 dials are out yet, let alone offered on an FX-3 fixed 6.
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

I've also been debating this only I've also been checking out the Bushnell Elite 6500's. I really want the SS the only thing holding me back is I want something more than 3-9x but I'm not willing to go with a fixed power scope. I wish they had a higher powered variable power scope out.

It is in the works. But I couldn't tell you when it will be out. Wish I could.

Yeah I did see that mentioned in a thread. I'm going to try to wait until it's out before I purchase one. Unless it's several years I don't see waiting being a huge problem as I have a scope that gets me by for right now.

I am in the EXACT same boat as you bud. I have a Nikon that I am using that does not match my rifle, but is very utility effective. I love everything about the SS 3-9, except for the fact that 9 is the max power.

I am going to hold out for something like 4.5-14.5 range. I would be much more comfortable locking in on that. I can't wait to see it.

Sounds like we are in the same position. If they came out with something in that power range I'd for sure be interested. I really like the 3x9x42 except for the fact like you said 9x is the max power. The scope I have now works fine and is clear enough for me to use it how I want to. It just doesn't have the mil dots nor the target adjustment knobs I want. It's also a 3x9x40 and I'd like more power. It hopefully will last me until something bigger in the SS line comes out.

Yeah.

The scope I am currently using is a Nikon Titanium 5.5-16.5x44 AO Riflescope-6680.

It is made of titanium, and is a complete tank. Got it for about $630 for my hunting rig, and put it onto my .308. My wife said to me:

"Why don't you just use the scope you ALREADY have, instead of wasting money on another one."

When I thought about it, this scope is good quality, has the right magnification, and will get the job done.

It just doesn't match the rifle... HA!
