Im wanting to buy a decent spotting scope for game and bullet(5.56) holes up to 600 yards. Ive heard good things about this Bushnell and would just as soon stay around 800.00 price range IF I can..What do you guys think? Anyone own a Elite like this? I would like it to be camera adaptable also Thanks! J.....

I don't know if anything other than a telescope would see 223 holes at 600. Shooting at reactive targets or Shoot-N-C's?

Under decent conditions - no mirage and proper lighting on the target - it is possible. I've been surprised sometimes how quickly mirage can form. I've gone to a spot near a 6000 ft. pass and shot from 5-9 a.m. in late June. You can start off the morning in a place like that freezing your butt off and four hours later the air is shimmering.

Perhaps 600 yards is not reasonable then, maybe 300 yards.

I would recommend "shoot and see" targets at that distance with any spotter.

Now see , Jason has a solution! I had no idea such a target was even made. Thanks Jason! I think that Bushnell will be a good scope for the money unless someone has a better idea?

The angled spotters work real well if using a window mount. almost as easy as looking in rear view mirror

Save a little longer, spend a little more, get the Vortex Razor, it is worth the extra $800! (Competes quite favorably with a friend's Kowa 884 - and for about half the $$.)

Kevin,
Is that Bushnell in the pic a angled? I like that mount, it would be very handy..
RC Ive set 800.00 as my limit. I think I can get what I need for that.. Ive lived this long without one so just having a fairly nice spotting scope is a step up for me.. I think Im gonna go with the lower priced Vortex.....
Thanks though.... Edited by JF4545 - May/13/2010 at 15:23 |

The Vortex will probably be more scope than you actually need (and probably more than you can get anywhere else for under $1000.) Buy with confidence, they make good stuff and take care of their customers.
