About a month ago I got a wild hair to refinish the stock on my Sako 75. It's just a basic hunter model with only average wood. But I always hated that tinted, epoxy based factory finish anyway. Well, I'm here to tell you it was a S.O.B. to remove. The ONLY stripper that worked was called Certistrip I got from Brownell's. If anybody else on here attempts similar projects, save yourself some grief and just get this stuff. I went through several "strippers" to no avail. The final removal required dipping 0000 steel wool in the stripper and rubbing vigorously.

Anyway, I finally finished and it came out pretty good (not bad for an old fart with arthritic hands incapable of doing much) LOL. The final sandings were done with 1200 grit and it smoothed up nicely. I selected Tru-Oil and put on 4 coats. It was very glossy and I was going to knock it down a bit with Rottenstone (basically DE) but it looks kinda cool so I believe I will leave it shiny (like a poor man's Weatherby!)

Anyhow, I just thought I'd share my experience!     Loco

Sorry Ric, Had to!    It was like a hanging slow curve up and out over the plate.

I like doing this. I just finished the stock on my model 74 Winchester 22. I am now contemplating doing the stock on my Model 70.

Good old oven cleaner does and amazing job. Lifts oil and all kinds of crap. Don't get a fright, but the wood comes out white!!! I have heard of guys putting the stock in the dishwasher as well, but I have not tried that one.

A bit of sanding, cleaning and oiling and she looks great again.

Sorry for posting a worthless thread. I already stated my camera took a dump and is back at Cannon getting repaired. Don't worry, it won't happen again.

I appreciate the knowledge even without seeing the results.
