Hey Guys, looking at purchasing a Bushnell 4200 in 6-24 X 40. I've heard some say the mildot and crosshairs are too thick. I'll be using this rig specificly for Prairie dogs out to 350 yds. What is your experience? Thanks

I think you should be fine. I've looked through one and it is comparable to a vortex crossfire 6-24x50 and I have a crossfire one of my p-dog guns. Never been too thick for dispatching those rodents. Mainly used in the 12 - 14x range.

There are times if I am at the range working on load development that I turn it up higher, but mirage becomes an issue on hot days and 12-14x is about much magnification as a guy can use.

Thanks for the info, fellas. I've been looking at that Bushnell as a cheaper alternative to the requisite Leupold for my new Cooper Varminter; the only thing lacking would be some adjustment range with the 1 in. tube vs. the 30mm LR.

I have three 4200's on my varmint guns and they work great on PD's, but you will want to stay around 12-14X is all you need........

ive had two of the 6x24x50 4200 elite tacitcals and they are very good scopes. the field of view isnt the best. but for the price and optics i lived with that.
at very long range the mildots might me abit thick. but guess it depends on how far you like to shoot out to

A true 10x mildot would be a better choice, it's a bit finer for small targets. Have you looked at 6500 Elite 2.5-16x42?

A little late here, but does anyone know what power the mrad subtension is calibrated for in the Bushnells? I thought i saw 12x on an optic once, but am not sure if these knewer high end models are also.

Steve - I checked that out the other day - the Bushnell site says 12x for all the Elite MilDots here.
