Go with the  BASF 040 Black base with ghosted Desert Silver stripes under a Black Pearl Clear.

or a 197 Black Opal with Pearl White stripes under a pearl Clearcoat.   Those colors will pop your eyes out.

I would REALLY like to see what that looked like. Please tell me you have seen it done!

That is actually the colors I started with. Tuxedo black with cortez silver deck stripes. Exact reverse of what this car is.

Here's some pics of an AC Cobra that is black with ghost stripes (silver). It may be close to what Steelbenz is suggesting as well.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! Can I get that in a Chevy please? I really like it. I didn't think much of it, until I saw the last picture where the stripe kind of dissapears.

I have been talking to mike tonight, and thought I should maybe tell the full story on this car.
The car is for my dad. He had one when he was young, and always wanted another one, so we bought one together. (10 years ago) Dad isn't getting any younger, and I've had the car in my garage going through the mechanical stuff. He has had no fun with the car as of yet.

Well, Dad isn't getting any younger, and two years ago he lost his wife.....to his "good friend". Needless to say, he's been kind of lonely, and down since then. Next to my kids, Dad is my world, and I would like to put a little spark back in his life. I don't think the color of the car matters to him(his was white with a black bumblebee stripe around the front) as much as the way the car makes him feel, but I need it to be great, and want him to love it. I know someday the car will come back to me, and eventually to my daughter, so I am not picking the color just for him, but not just for me either.(he did like the black pickup I showed him with silver deck stripes)
Now I've put kind of a different spin on things, but the ideas are great guys. Thanks!

I think that is an exceptionally kind thing for you to do for your father, Jason!

Man, I'm quite taken with the finish on that Cobra!  I didn't quite understand the term "ghost stripes" but now that I see it, I believe if it were me, I would go for that effect on the stripes, regardless of what color combination you decide on!

Thanks for the visual, Mike!

Ok Benz. I'm no paint wizard.......could you tell me how they ghost silver? I asked a "part time" painter if he could ghost stripe in silver, and he looked at me like I was nuts.

It takes a very good hand and the right equipment to do it right. One of the German Misters I worked with could do it as good as a Behr Eco-Bell. Try it with low fluid, high atomization air an normal fan air.
