Does anyone have  good  reciepe for loading up some 140 gr. Nosler partioner .270 win. shells? I would like to keep them at least at 3000 fps. I am going out west and Alberta for whitetail deer this year.  I like 140 gr .270 loads but nobody factory makes them in a Nosler partion bullet.  130 and 150 but not 140's.  Thanks for any input.

Looking at my Lee reloading manual they fastest I see listed it xmr-4850 @ 56gr pushing 2988fps   thats the upper end, trail and error will be the only way to figure out what your gun will do.  What length barrel do you have, it will play a factor in increasing FPS too.

My Nosler #4 shows 3003 fps (Ballistic Tip) w/a max load of RL19 out of a 24"bbl.

Even with all this data, only your gun will tell you what it will do,  You need to reload and test with a chrony to know what it will do and what will be to much pressure.

 +1 !

Talk about startin' a heated discussion.  Mention to some about using a chronograph to develop loads.

Seems 3100 fps w/130's is USUALLY doable.  I got a real accurate load @ an average of 3112 fps out of a 22" bbl Rem 700 and good case life.

I usually find the bullet the gun likes best and then fine tune the powder a little.  Then again I like to try all kinds of bullets still so I find one load that shoots well and then play with others still keeping the gravy load for comparisons, and Zombies lol

 That'll work!

I'm kinda of a one bullet/load per rifle kinda guy.  Except for my .300 which I have 150gr and 180gr loads for.

i myself worry more about accuracy as opposed to speed, usually the hottest loads wont be the most accurate.

No doubt.  But it seems alot that if the accuracy is going to happen it starts showing up as you approach max.

ive only had maybe two guns in my life that shot there most accurate groups at or near max, the rest were always a few grains below.

now are you saying max as in starting to see pressure signs or max as in what the book recommends?

pressure signs for me, most of my guns have shot pretty well with published max's over the years.

For me? Max is when my chrono starts showing signs of diminishing returns(I like to refer to it as the load becoming unstable)as far as the powder charge is concerned.  Very low velocity increases or actually a drop in velocity.  This has worked for me for YRS and has given me top notch loads w/GOOD casing life(means alot when you have to make your casings).

Some times a compressed load will provide the best accuracy.

Thunbs Up  Seems the higher % of load density the better chance of accuracy if the powders not to slow to provide the right velocity that'll produce that accuracy.
