I took about 8 months but, I finally got the S&W 1500 .338-06 finished.  Sent the action off to E. R. Shaw and had them remove the original .270 W.C.F. barrel and replace it with a 24" #2 1/2 contour barrel.  Did the metal prep myself.  Kenneth at El Dorado Pawn & Gun blued it for me.  Refinished the floorplate and trigger guard using Birchwood Casey's Aluminum Blue.  Floated the barrel (had to redo the channel for the heavier contour anyway), recontoured the bottom edge of the cheek peice, and refinished the stock with a traditional Tung Oil finish (I don't know how many coats (I lost count)).  Topped it off with a Burris Fullfield 3.5x10x50 in Leupold Dual Dovetail bases and rings and now I just gotta load up some ammo and get it to the range.

This caliber (.338-06) always seemed to me to make a lot of sense.  Hope it does everything you're looking for.

makes more sense than the 30-06 does for sure, really you could eliminate the 30-06 and the .270 from the line up and it would be good with 25-06 .280 .338-06 and 35 whelen.

what do you think of that wayne van zwoll?Bucky

That is a beauty for sure. Please post a report when you get it too the range, we are all interested in how she shoots! Is that the original stock? If it is, what did you use to strip the original finish?

Best of luck on the shooting trip!

Pyro, we don't really need any of those, all we need is a 220 Swift/22-250 Rem and a 375!!! LOL Wouldn't be as much fun though, would it?
