I have a rem 700 SS XCR 375 RUM and right now am running a 3-9X40 bushnell elite 3200 on it while I develop loads.  Its a touch short on eye relief at 3.3 inches and has "touched" me on the shooting glasses a time or two even though I have it mounted way forward as far as possible in leupy dual dovetail mounts/rings.  In some hunting type shooting positions I think this scope would probably "get me".  Any suggestions on a tough 2-7 thru 2-9 or 2-10 variable with good eye relief and not a price that breaks the bank.  not more than 400.oo but less expensive would be even better.  I just got a sightron SII Big sky in 3-9-42.  Love the scope and has 3.9-4.1 eye relief but not sure about its toughness on recoil.  This gun comes back real quick when flingin 260 gr accubonds at 3K fps.  I have the sightron on a 270 wby now and can't decide what to buy for the big RUM.  Thanks for your experienced replies on this guys!

FWIW, I've been told (by the Sightron folks) that the Sightron Big Sky line can handle the recoil fine.

I have been able to get Conquest scopes in 3-9x40 and 2.5-8x32 for less than $400 with careful shopping. Both of these great scopes have a true eye relief of 4 inches which is more than most scopes and they have a good reputation for holding up under heavy recoil. I like the Conquest 2.5-8x32 best because it is lighter and has a wider field of view than the 3-9x40 Conquest. Other tough scopes with good eye relief would be Leupoldvxll 2-7x33 and 1-4x20, vx3 1.5-5x20 and the Burris Signature Select 1.75-5x32 but none of these have quite as much eye relief as the two Conquest scopes. All of these scopes have alot more eye relief than the 3200 3-9x40, I know because I have owned one. I have carefully measured the eye relief of every scope I have told you about and the 2.5-8 and 3-9 Conquests have the most eye relief. If you want even more eye relief and can spend $500  then the Bushnell 6500 1.25-8x32 has a true 5 inches of eye relief. The trick with this scope is getting it mounted far enough forward to get a full field of view but it is not going to hit you in recoil.I used Weaver exstentions which puts it forward quite a bit.
