I posted this on another forum, but didn't quite get the info I need on this scope.
My main question is if this scope is missing a lockdown ring or not.

The eyepiece is screwed way out, but the operator who gave it to me told me he had not actually took it to the limit of it coming out of the scope body.
If that is true, which I believe it to be, then the nitrogen charge should still be intact.
Other than that, I just would like to have some more info on the scope or some advice as to whether or not I should worry about the lockdown ring.
Thanks.

Here's the link and post on the other thread:

This CABELA'S ALASKAN GUIDE 2.5x32 scope was a gift from a friend.
It came with an AR15 carry handle mount and Weaver rings, all hooked up, ready to go.
It appears to be a 1-pc. tube with a nitrogen purge valve cover on the saddle section.
The ocular section doesn't have a lock ring.
The windage/elevation turrets have the finger adjustable feature.
I can't seem to find any info on the web about this particular model.
If anyone has information or links, please post about it.

I'd like to know a few things:
1. Who is the likely manufacturer of the scope?
2. Anyone have one? like or dislike it?
3. Any other info you have is welcome.

It seems to be a very unusual specimen. Shocked

I apologize that there are no reponses. The regular members here likely don't have any experience with that scope.

I'll make a guess that it's made by Nikon.  Doesn't appear to be made/sold anymore.

I thought another company made those for Cabelas. I can't recall the name though.

I know that Pine Ridge is one of the models Cabelas offers.  Very low end.

Ah, maybe I missed it then.
They've been talked about every now and again. Koshkin would probably know.

The scope is a one-piece tube and nitrogen purged, so it's not the low-end 'Pine Ridge' end of the spectrum.

It's the 'ALASKAN GUIDE' series, probably made in Red China...for all I know.
My guess, from all the internet gawking I gave it, is that it most closely resembles a KONUS scope of some sort.
Probably made in Red China...

Even the vaunted 'Golden Ring' Leupolds use Japanese glass, probably NIKON's.
Of course, that might even be made in the Pill-a-peenz.

All I know so far is the scope was free and seems to be an OK unit of unknown origin.

Cabela's Alaskan Guide scopes have traditionally been made in Japan.  That having been said, I have never seen a 2.5x32 Alaskan Guide scope, so I do not know about this one.

Can you offer a little more detail, like tube diameter, etc?

Also, do you have a picture of it?

There are not a whole lot of 2.5x scopes made in Japan (or outside of China).  There is a Sightron S1:

Leupold and Burris/Pentax have the 2.5x20, but the rest of the 2.5x scopes I can think of are made in China.

Not that this is a burning question/answer for anyone else here, but it might be helpful to someone searching for the same answers.
I e-mailed CABELA'S, here's what I got back:

----------------------------------------------

Re: ALASKAN GUIDE 2.5X32 scope.

I've asked on a few forums re this scope that was given to me and nobody seems to have an answer, so I'm going to the source for good information, short of taking into the new store here in Lacey, Washington.

The scope was given to me by a friend, but I have no box or other concrete information as to the origins of the unit.
Where was it made? Who made it? Is it supposed to have a lockdown ring for the ocular lens end?
It appears to be practically new and used very little, as described by the guy who gave it to me. He said he bought it on sale but it didn't meet his needs so it was offered to me, which I gratefully accepted.
Please let me know if you have any information, written or online, that I can get regarding this scope.
Much appreciated.

Sincerely,
BusGunner007

Hello BusGunner007 and thank you for contacting Cabela's Product Information Department,

Unfortunately the manufacture information is not available to give out, but I can tell you that it was made in Japan.
I don't recall that scope having a lock down ring on the eye piece, but I have not seen one for a few years as we no longer offer that item.
They are a quality scope comparable to what the lower end Leupold would be. Thank you for visiting cabelas.com.
If you have any future questions feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,
Matt

If it's at least as good as my Denver made Redfields, I'm happy.

I do plan to visit the store soon.
I'll bring the scope in just for curiosity's sake and see what they say.
This scope will be relegated to 'plinker' status, albeit 'really good' plinker scope!
