For what it offers it's hard to beat. Especially where it is priced.

I was considering it for my .223.  I did a lot of reading on this site and a few others, and heard that it's a great scope for the price, but you sacrifice some quality for magnification.  The exact details of that, I'm not too sure--never used one myself.

I ended up going with a swift 4-12x40 ($125 on another site) because here in the East most of my shots will be under 250 yards.  I've also seen that everyone has been overly impressed with swift's quality for the price.  They're often said to be on par with Leupold for about half the price.

Anyway, If you're shooting further than I am and want a good, inexpensive scope then that's the one to get.

Now that I look at what you wrote, I don't think I've ever seen a whitetail classic w/ a 44mm objective.  You might want to check and make sure you're pricing the same scope on different sites.  There are two similar models:

1) Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20x50mm

2) Simmons 44 mag 6.5-20x44mm

Check both out.  They're both supposed to be pretty good, and sometimes the mag is priced as low as the Whitetail Classic (it's supposedly a little bit better quality from what i've read).
