Anybody have any feedback on the subject scope. I have an opportunity to purchase a new one at an excellent price; however, I don't want to waste the money if the quality and reliablity is not up to par. Thanks for any feedback you guys might have on this.

I have used a few Millett scopes, they aren't too bad, just don't expect high quality gear. I would say if you can get it for $250 or less, then go for it.

I can get it for $169.00. Is is worth it. I'm not too concerned about the quality of the glass, because I'd just be putting it on a relatively inexpensive rifle to have some fun with during the day. Not really depending on it as a big game hunting scope, Just something to satisfy my urge to go out and shoot something and experiment with ammunition, without breaking out one of my good rifles. Thinking about buying a Marlin XS7 in .308 (I don't own a .308 yet) and put the scope on that.
Thanks for the feedback.

Yep, we did in another forum; but, I thought I'd concentrate on the one topic here and see if I got any responses. Hope this didin't disturb you. If it did, don't log onto this thread again and it won't bother you a bit. Promise!

Sorry about my attitude; however, if you would have just stated what I did wrong, I would have happily complied. I didn't need the snied remark indicative of the A.H. you have as an avitar. Try pulling my finger.

I can assure you, I will comply with the rules and treat everyone that responds to my comments with the respect that they deserve. Maybe it was just your avitar....it raises the hair on the back of my neck... coupled with the way your remark came off to me. It was a bit condecending. I'm sure we can put this behind us and both enjoy the forum for the purpose for which it was intended. Peace! As far as I'm concerned, lets talk about shooting optics! |

My avatar aside (it's supposed to be in reference to my hunting experiences... Look up green pickle bucket and you'll understand) I am one of the most funloving members here. I don't make remarks idley, or to condescend. I was giving you a chance to make a correction, or at the least ask what you did wrong. What I got was a warning to watch how you fit in here. Where we go from here is entirely up to you. I hold no grudges, and give newbies ample opportunity to make corrections. If I or any Moderator here has to clean up after someone, what has that person learned? It is best for the Forum as a whole, that members learn how to behave, rather than being cleaned up after. I hope you understand where I am coming from. I also hope that you value and enjoy your time here with us.

I'm sure we will get along just fine. We love too much of the same thing to not. Never met anybody from Georgia that I couldn't get along with! The information I got here helped me make my decision on the scope and I want to thank all you guys that responded, either on this thread or the other one that I had mistakenly asked the same question.
After I purchase a scope and put it on the new .308 Marlin XS7, I'll post how it performs on the rifle.

Spent a couple of hours at the gun range today with the Marlin XS7 and the new BSA 4x16x40 IR scope. Now before anybody says anything about my choice of scopes, I knew exactly what I was buying and didn't want to spend a bunch on a scope for an inexpensive no frill truck rifle. That being said, the rifle performed very well getting no more than 1 1/4" groups at 100 yds. I even got a couple of groups were all three holes were touching one another (sometimes you have to get lucky). I was using the least expensive ammo, Remington Core-lokes 150 grain, just to have a little fun with the rifle. The scope was just about what I expected. It held zero through the power range; however, at the higher power settings the scope was not as clear as it could be. It just seemed as though it got a little hazey somewhere after the 12 power setting. It was sort of an overcast day, not bright and clear, so that could have been one of the reasons for the haze over the 100 yds distance. I couldn't shoot over 100 yds due the shooting range's limitations; but, when I looked at objects farther than 100 yds, the haze seemed worse. I would guess this is just a function of the cheaper lenses used in inexpensive scopes; but, it's something I can live with on this gun and hardly makes it an unpleasant scope to use. If the scope holds up and maintains its settings, I'll be happy with it. That being said, I would not recommend it on a high dollar rifle to be used for that once in a life time hunting trip, or where long range, late evening or early morning, hunting shots are a possibility.
I still think the old saying "you gets what you pays for" holds true here.

Most scopes at higher mag will exhibit some hazing... That is the mag exposing atmospheric conditions. Better glass and Coatings helps eliminate that which is inherent in the glass itself. There will still be some greying, which is exactly why at distance objects start to grey out. Think Mountains off in the distance, you know they are green with vegetation, yet they appear to be a bluish grey.

Let us know how they hold zero after bouncing around in the truck.

I will let you know how it holds up; however, I'm not going to be letting it bounce around in the truck bed loaded up with a bunch of cinder blocks.
We should be able to tell how it's going to hold up after another couple of boxes of ammo through it. I'll keep you guys posted.
The BSA Sweet 17 scope on my Savage 9317 has been on the rifle for about a year now and has held up well, continueing to hold zero; but, there is no recoil there to speak of.
