Hey Guys,
I am new here.  Looking for a scope for my 308.  Want to reach out to 600-800yds. Been researching the  1-4x24 Vortex Viper PST.  From what I can gather this is calibrated for 223.
Then I researched some of the other scopes which are longer ( Diamond Back 4-14x42) but I am afraid due to the length that it will interfere with the charging handle.  Do you guys have any suggestions. I need to stay withinn the 500.00 range.
Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the Viper PST 1-4 isn't calibrated for anything - it is a mil/mil or moa/moa scope with a reticle that will allow YOU to do holdover based on what you know about your particular load/caliber.  It isn't a BDC style for a particular load.

I'm going to get one for both my 5.56 AR and my Kel Tech RFB .308 and as long as I know the bullet drop at different ranges I'll be able to use the reticle and subtensions for a fast BDC based on that.

For 600-800 yards,, you are gonna want more than a 1-4X.  My AR10 wears a 2.5-10 and that is pretty good, will probably go to a 3-12 eventually.

The scope should not interfere with the charging handle, but it might be close.

The 10X SuperSniper would be a good choice.

You can always buy a charging handle with an extended latch, or just an extended latch

If your having charging handle problems, I suspect you have the scope mounted too low. Are you using extra mounts, or AR type mounts?. The headposition on AR is higher than most , and raising the scope to the handle ht. works best. I would also suggest getting a Magpul adjustable stock, which will allow almost any combination of scope and rings.

I have the PRS on my AR10, it is a great stock, no question, makes shooting with a scope much, much easier.
