Barrel just got here from Douglas and all I have to say is wow!

Thats the sporter barrel that was on it.

It fills the Choate Stock up nice

Right now she weighs in at 16lbs with no optic, base or rings.  Its one heavy mofo but it shouldn't be to hard on the shoulder.  THe current bipod will be replaced with a Harris soon but it was an old one I had laying around so on she went.  Paint job may or may not happen anytime soon.  I have a bunch of action proving dummy rounds from years ago and it feeds great and runs through them as fast as I can cycle.  The bolt is heading off after next weekend for the bolt conversion to short action customs.
Now just waiting on the EGW 20MOA base and Burris Tactical 30mm rings from SWFA and I can get the SS10x Mounted.  Those pictures should be up first of the week.

Now.  This thread will turn into a review of the barrel, bolt knob conversion, and optic setup as well so stay tuned for results.  We gonna see if the old Winchester can hold its own to a Remmy!

UPS has the rings here tomorrow and the base here monday.  Getting my MOL tonight and loading up for next weekend. Will shoot next weekend and have a good review of the initial test.  I am not sending the bolt handle out until after next weekend cause it will be a few weeks after that before I can shoot again so I won't miss it.

thanks,  the three tones, lol are actually starting to grow on me I thought it was going to look horrible but with the black on the stock and black receiver then the polished bolt and barrel it looks ok.  Doesn't mean I won't paint it but just not going to get in a hurry at least.

Is that a post 64 Winchester Mod. 70 action? What twist rate does your new barrel have?

Very nice.  Gotta love those big'ol barrels.  Thunbs Up

Don't you have another gun you can take the rings off of??? Patience, the least useful of virtues...

Duct tape would have the scope contacting the barrel, with baling wire you can rig facsimile rings.  Probably would need 4 at double thicknesses...
