I have grate luck with E.R Shaw. I'm actully looking at a #5 (1.250+ from chamber to crown) 26 inch for a 300 win mag build i'm wanting to do. At the shop we just got back a 7rum that was rebarrled in a winchester and after floating and bedding it shoots bug holes I hand lap every rebarrel that comes thru the door just to be safe and its a great arm work out. I like shaw and as of yet I have not got a bad one from them. I'm not going to say we wont but they will keep getting my work.

Cool can't wait to hear what you have to say about your build. I LOVE heavy rifles. If i'm adding right in my head with the voices in spanish my build should weight 15 pounds give or take.

I am thinking mine will be around 17.  I got the choate ultimate sniper stock to test and put up a review which is a heavy mofo.  Then the SS 10X Side Focus, harris bipod, 29" barrel from them.  It will not be something I want to carry lol

So do you handlap a custom handlapped barrel?
Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

I wouldn't do it to the top tier custom barrels, i.e. Krieger, Hart, Lilja, Shilen, Bartlein, Broughton, etc.  They hold 0.0002" TIR on bore dia uniformity, and I figure their folks know how to lap barrels, as evidenced by their continual presence on the most accurate rifles in the world in the competition circuit.  I wouldn't touch the bore of one of these barrels; I would just shoot it and clean very carefully.

Well, if you had had one, I was going to send you an ultimate sniper stock to play with.  I'm not going to have time to build up another rifle before I take a trip...

Why would you lap a custom tube that has been lapped already?

Do you want to build on an ultimate sniper stock.  To be very good, you would need to have a heavy barrel.  It looks kind of odd with the stock barrel.  Mine is being completely rebuilt on a custom stock.  Brandon is always looking for interesting projects and lives "right down the road" from me, but if you want to play, I'll mail you the beast.  I like it, it has a number of very interesting features.  I like its roughness and I like the weight.  Pretty easy drop in.  Had to do just a little filing in the trigger area.  Let me know...

No offense, but you are looking for trouble. Lapping is an art form when done by the maker. You can cause more problems by improperly lapping like damaging the crown and last couple of inches of barrel if it is not done right.
