How do you compare the glass on these two scopes? Went to a gun store today and they thought the Meopta was the second coming They thought they were soon going to be A LOT higher priced because of how good they are. Any thoughts? |

Meopta scopes are indeed very good.
That having been said, I think Kahles glass, generally is better. Keep in mind though that how it looks to your eye heavily depends on lighting and on configurations. Both are very solid scopes though and since they are in different price ranges, they do not really compete against each other. ILya

I am not very experienced with optics, so forgive me for being ignorant. The Meopta 4 x 12 40mm is $649 from SWFA. I found Kahles Helia CL 3x9 42mm for $599. Spending that much the $50 doesn't make a difference to me. Would you still rather have the Kahles for low light hunting situations?

Kahles has had some trouble with importers recently, so all the 1" tube scopes you are likely to see are on close out, hence the good prices. That Kahles CL used to be about $900 or so. Between those two, I would go for Kahles in a heartbeat. ILya

Kahles CL. I have one and it is fantastic, especially at the prices they have been going for lately. At the old prices, I'm not as sure... Great glass, light weight, tough scopes.

From those two: Kahles!
Meopta is good for the price but Kahles is generally better and more expensive. |

I tried to contact Gamo USA numerous times (Kahles new USA distributor) with no success.
So I guess Khahles is still having problems with a USA distributor. Steve |

They are both good to be sure. Some of the Meoptas are heavy and have less ER. The Kahles distribution problem / issues definitely warrant monitoring.
