Hi,
I have an Anschutz 1717 HMR which I use for varmint shooting out to 200 yards. I am experiencing some zero instability and am thinking maybe it's the way I'm mounting the scope.
At present I use the rail but the receiver is also drilled and tapped.
So, my question is, which would give me the most stable combination:
1/ rings with integral 11mm screw type dovetail bases
2/ screw in mounts and standard or dual dovetail rings
3/ screw on picatinny rail for weaver type rings
4/ something else
Thanks in advance.

Why do you think that it is the mount and not some other part of the puzzel?

Have swopped scopes, raised and lowered torque settings for stock screws, practised with different marksmanship techniques, glass bedded action, lowered two stage trigger down to just over 1 lb, experimented with cleaned and dirty barrel ....

Groups move, "center-to-center" by 0.8MOA?
Does this happen in a range session or from one session to the next? Are there any visible signs of the scope moving in the mounts? What scope are you using (make and model)? At what ranges are you seeing this 0.8MOA shift? Does the rifle shoot tight groups, just shifted? Has the rifle ever shot tight groups? |

Sounds like a scope problem, not amount problem.

Before posting this query, I had tried swopping scopes and as the problem remained I had discounted the scopes as being the source. However, on trying yet another scope the problem has been resolved.
What's the chances of that!
So, the advice from you guys was correct. Many thanks.
