I know there are certain coatings, cerema coat.... and others that are used to coat raw stainless steel and chrome moly to say make it black.  I friend told me that he took his 22lr and coated it with hightemp engine spray paint and hasnt had any ill effects Claims to have used rustolum on one too but I haven't seen that one personally.  While I am not wanting to coat a 22, is there a cheaper method to "black" a barrel than having it cerama coated, would this spray paint method work?  I know durablity wise he says he touches it up about every 6 months but is that the only benefit?  Thanks for the help guys.

You can also use the Rust coat that converts rut into a primer. It gives a nice flat black.

rattle can it, cheap and easy to get off.

If you want rust-prevention, durability, and "aestehtics", duracoke is much choice, durable as hell, protective, not easy to scratch or ding.

Didn't want people to think it was a BSA.

I have not used it, but am really interested to know how well it holds up.  Whatever you decide to use let me know how it turns out, and how well it holds up.
