I just recently purchased a Ruger M77 Hawkeye .22-250. My intent is some target shooting and coyote hunting. Having said that I have no idea what kind of scope to put on it. As far as range I have been told a 4x12  would be good for my gun. I am not wanting to spend a lot of money. I would like to keep it in the $400.00 dollar range. Any good suggestions?

Nikon Monarch 3-12x42  $419.95
Vortex Viper 4-12x40  $399.95
Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12x40  $269.95

The monarch and the vortex are side focus and the bushnell is A/O.  The bushnell also has rainguard.  Any of these would do the job.

I just picked up a Monarch in 5x20x44 for $420 shipped.  SWFA will price match.

12x is plenty for dogs.  Rodents and paper can be enhanced with a bit more magnification IMO.

10816 Trijicon 3-9x40 Accu-Point TR20, Matte finish, Amber Triangle reticle, fast focus eye piece, light ring marks $499.95
I would rather have an illuminated reticle if possible and I think you guys are way high on the power range for coyotes because they move pretty fast.  The 22-250 is a flat shooting cartridge I'd zero at 200 and see what it did at 50, 100 and 300

11536 Trijicon 1.25-4x24 Accu-Point TR21, Matte finish, Amber Triangle BAC, 1" tube, fast focus eye piece, ring marks, Used Condition $449.95
