just got the march/april edition of rifleshooter today. boddington has two articles in it that ive read so far, and both were excellent. the first talked about the affects of recoil, i strongly suggest that everybody read it. craig was carrying a 9lb .600 nitro double on an elephant hunt, he took a shot and both barrels fired, he said he didnt remember much, but the damage was evident. he said his shoulder is still not right.

the second article is about the .300H&H mag, and craig hadnt messed with the H&H at all, and after Geoff Miller @ John Rigby & Co built him a custom .300H&H on a m700 he showed craig how much of a performer the H&H is. the data from the range as far as speeds go were on par with and at times better than the .300 win mag. impressive for a cartridge that is said to be obsolete.
They call me "Boots"
375H&H Mag: Yeah, it kills stuff "extra dead"

343 we will never forget

I also enjoy Boddington, one of my favorites.  He really is earning alot of respect in recent years.

Boddington=integrity, IMO. He along with JB and a few others are stalwarts in their writings.
Of course various companies sponsor these fellows for their response. To their credit, many of these same manufacturers respond to their constructive "nits". They improve the product based on their observations.
I applaud these writers for their constructive criticism of products.

I also read those articles. My shoulder hurts just thinking about it.

I thought so too, then I saw his lavish praise for Countersniper optics: the airsoft of "sniper" optics.

The scope performed so badly, I'd guess, they couldn't include target data on the gun they were testing (the Thompson tactical.)

I had respect for him too (Marines bleed eagles, globes, and anchors) till I saw him sell his soul for however many pieces of silver "Dark Ops" paid him for the praise.

I've canceled my subscription to Guns n Ammo due to those 2 articles.  I even wrote a letter to the editor.  imagine that, it weren't published.  And I used good grammar and spelling and everything!

So say Company XYZ approached you and said we will give you 1million dollars to publically recommend and stand behind our product.  you test the product, know its crap and would never use one for a boat anchor, Would you still do it?

What you are asking here is the conundrum "what is the price of the man who has no price?"
RC has already answered... if one cannot be bought, there is no more question...

In short, no, I would not praise something I knew to be crap.

I've reviewed several optics, here and elsewhere and - Chris can tell you - I always give the disclaimer up front, "if it's crap, I ain't gonna polish a turd or call it something else. If you don't like that, don't ask me to evaluate it."

To me, my word is worth more than your million dollars.  I "might" have a price, but no one has named it yet.  I hope I don't but am realistic too.

To that end, if I recommend something, it is ONLY because I believe it to be worthy of praise. And, conversely, if I talk something down, it is ONLY because I believe it not worthy of praise.

Didn't mean to steer the thread down a rabbit hole.

Carry on.

(And I talked with a guy who hunted with Boddington, said he was a pretentious ass, can't say I know him personally, but I have much faith in the guy who told me this.  That too doesn't bode well for my opinion of the man.)

Everyone has a price.  It is just not always a monetary thing.

I certainly have a price, but no one has offered it yet.
