So....you've spent a small fortune on quality optics as well as good rifles. What brand of safe do you own and why? How big of one did you get?---Bboy623
I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6!

You need to get what meets your needs and to do that you need to assess what risk you are guarding against.  If this is for your personal firearms you need to not only select a model based on size but on what you are protecting them from some safes are fire rated some are not.  A real Pro can get into any of them with enough time but the average burglar can not get into most of them.  Browning makes a lot of them and once you are over 550 lbs  then that is the minimum level the military requires to secure a military weapon like an M9 that has been hand recipted for special purposes like competitions.  A true weapons vault is a heavy reinforced concrete structure with dehumidifier and drain plumbed in with alarm systems for entry and fire and camera systems watching it with armed personnel able to respond rapidly.  Somewhere between that minimum and that maximum you will find what works for you.   The lighter  stuff is really - gun boxes - designed to prevent  unathorised access buy children.

Yukon Gold 24 gun..not the most secure safe out there but has a fire rating of 30 min @1200 degrees F, and it keeps my three year old boy out of it.      I like it.

A little advice though is to get a little bigger safe than what you think you actually need.  You will be very surprised at how quickly they seem to fill up.

  +2 on that.
I have a Champion that is supposed to hold 24 long guns but the only way to do that is to remove the scopes. I bought what I thought at the time to be plenty big enough but soon found out I needed more room, so I am now looking for another one. This next one is going to be for home defense guns and set up in my bedroom.
16" ar,    308model 10fp-20" barrel, 12 guage short barrel with red dot sight, and then a few hand guns of different calibers, and at least 100 rounds of ammo for each gun.
I am not paranoid but with home invassions, burgaleries, and the plane and simple truth that it takes the average P.D 20 minutes to respond to such calls I would rather be safe than sorry. My family comes first.

Yeah, and they are like tents....they don't 'sleep' nearly as many guns as they advertise.

Liberty 31- gun safe. 1 hour @ 1200 rating. I like it, it's nice, but I wish I had enough room for a 100 + sized safe.

I use the el-cheepo stackon safes, but they are in an secured room in the basement.  I'm not real concerned about fire, but I am concerned for my teenage daughter and her friends.

Sturdy Safe 3224 7 gauge http://www.sturdysafe.com/model3224.htm
I bought mine 3 years ago for $800.00 shipped on sale before he became popular. He has it listed at twice that now before shipping.

It's not a looker but it's all security all the time.

Custom build "room" safe. Sentry vault door with day lock and combination.  Walls and ceiling treated with 14 gauge steel all around and fire resistant insulation. Concrete floor.  Shelves to hold long guns and handguns.  Currently holding mine and my dads guns along with some others.  Housing right at 100 total and not even 1/4 full.  Cost about 10 to build and haven't second guessed it yet.

+1 on getting one bigger than you think you'll need.  You will wind up putting important papers and other things in there too, once you have one.

A good trick is to add weight by putting bags of shot in the bottom.  This makes it easier for YOU to move the safe, but much harder for a bad guy to move the safe.

when i build my house im going to use icf walls and in the middle of the house im going to build a room that will act as a tornado shelter/ bomb shelter/ gun safe/ reloading room. and then it will have cement walls and ceiling and a browning vault door. i figured that would serve a lot of purposes.

Safe from a jewlery store that went out of business, super tough 8 layer walls, removed shelves and plenty of room for rifles

That is the construction I have.  Walls including brick and air barrier are 23in thick.  Plus, this is mounted on top...

How heavy do you need your safe to be?

Mine weighs around 800lbs empty, plus I drilled a few holes to attach it to the concrete slab the house sits on.
