I know a couple of people who put Rain X on their scopes to keep them from externally fogging from warm breath on cold days. I have never done it, but it sounds like it could work. Any thoughts?

Rain-X contains methanol, a solvent, which is classified by EPA as an active poison. A poisionous solvent will not be good for any lens coatings. If your scope lenses are merely window glass, it might be helpful...
Seriously, don't ever put it on the lenses of a scope you actually expect to use...

Great for car windshields, bad for coated lenses.

If you made the mistake of applying the Rain X, it's very easy to remove with 80 grit sand paper.

An effective an "ultimate" completion of the task... I don't know though, lt, are you SURE 80grit is heavy enough??? 40 would allow you to flatten those lenses right out. Then the water would run off in sheets...

Didn't want to over heat the sand paper, as you know sand paper is expensive and sand is a treasured commodity. I'm sure the results will be the same with the 80 grit.

Oh, gotcha, you are using a power sander. I would have done it by hand...
