Hello all,
Just wanting to introduce myself before I ask the proverbial question...Which scope?!?! My name is Jay and I'm from The Granite State. I use the same name on multiple forums, I'm sure I'll see you around. This is my dilemma: I just bought a Tikka T3 Lite in .308 and I am in need of glass. This is my first rifle and I will be looking to get into deer hunting. I live in NH and will be mostly hunting here and occasionally in Maine. I would think that I will be looking at ranges anywhere from 50 yards to 2-300 yards max. I have a budget of about $300 +/- $50 or so depending on what is on the table. This budget also will need to buy base/rings (also looking for recommendations for those too). So far, I think I have narrowed it down to 3/4 scopes. I am thinking that 3-9x40 will get the job done. 1. Bushnell Elite 3200/4200 3-9x40 (Is the 4200 worth the extra money?) 2. Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 3. Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 4. Since I found this site I have been hearing about Vortex and Sightron, but I had never heard of them before here. What does everyone think? Do you have something to add? Thanks in advance. Jay |

vortex viper is nice and sightron sII Big sky is also nice. as far as your list goes the 4200 is one of the best scopes on the planet for less than $400.

Welcome to O.T. Jay!
Of the scopes listed the 4200 is the hands down winner as far as I'm concerned. The glass is great, they have been bullet proof and the Rainguard works. Everyone here seems to like the Talley mounts for the Tikka. Good luck, Doug |

Elite would be better than the Burris and Nikco that you mentions either woudl be good but the 4200 is optically a superior scope. Clarity will be slightly better. The 3200 is no slouch though and will perform great in all conditions.

Thanks for the welcome! Are you talking about the one-piece Talley mounts? I was looking at those. |

+1 for the Bushnell 3x9 4200. The 4200 is a fine value, very nice for the money. The T3's are usually quite accurate. I think you'll like it. Congrats!

I only see the light weight aluminum in two piece. Those are the ones, though. I know Rancid Coolaid and a few others like them a lot. The steel bases I see are two piece, too.

I bet when he said one piece he meant the ring and base in one unit. And those are very good ringmounts

I agree with the others that the 4200 is fantastic, though I've heard rumors that the Conquest 3-9x40 may drop to $399.00 again. If this is true I'd spend the extra money for the zeiss.

Welcome to OT, Jay!
I too would get the 4200 from the options you list. It's a great scope for a great price.
However, I would be inclined to get the Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 if you can buy it for $400.
