Looking at getting a new scope for under 200.00 bucks. Is this bushnell any good?

It is an average decent scope but I think you would be beneficial to look at some of the Elite 3200's. The Elite series starts with the 3200 then teh 4200 then the 6500 with it being the top of the bushnell line. I think that for a few more coins there would be a similar 3200 that would have the firefly reticle (for the illumination) and the light gathering ability of the trophy wiht the 56 would be similar to the 40 because of the optical quality is higher with the 3200

I would buy an Elite 3200 which is a much better scope. The Trophy is ok but a 3-9x40 Elite is going to be a better scope in low light.I owned an older Bushnell Banner 3-9x56 which is a step above the Trophy that was made in Japan that was pretty good back in the early 90's.The Trophy is not a bad scope just think you can get a smaller scope like the 3200 3-9x40 that would be a better scope.

I have that scope on a 7mm Mag. It is a decent scope. It ranks above the Banner. It is below the 3200, which is below the Legend, and so forth. From my eyes, the Bushnell line ranks like this.
Best to least.
1 6500
2 4200
3 Legend (Has 91% Light trans, and rainguard)
4 3200 (Has 90% Light trans, and rainguard)
5 Trophy (3-12x56 Reticle is Glass etched illuminated dot German #4)
6 Banner
7 Sportsman

I once compared Bushnell Legend 4-12x40 and Elite 3200 3-10x40. Both were and I had them both on the rifles at the same time. Legend was better in low light and the difference was really obvious. I sold them both and moved to Nikon Buckmasters 4-12x50 and Nikon Monarch E 2.5-10x56.
If I would be buying a Bushnell scope again I would go with 4200 or 6500. But in the low price range I would go for a Legend and not 3200. |
