Recently received my first centrefire rifle (before that I shot .22s and Black Powder).
Question i've got is: What bore cleaner do you all use and recommend??? (Hoppes, G96, Sweets etc)

To each his own on this. I personally use hoppes but only because i used to be able to buy it by the gallon and fill an empty ammo can with it for storage and parts soak.

I use Hoppes #9 for 95% of my bore cleaning chores, occasionally I'll break out the Sweets 7.62 for a complete cleaning.

I use the foaming cleaner on my muzzleloader but not my centerfires. Something about a chemical reaction inside there seems like it might harm the metal.

Hey, you can get Sweets' by the gallon down there, mate!
Seriously, most of the main brands will work. Bear in mind that some are good for removing carbon and others for copper. Use a bore guide, stick with bronze brushes and coated bore jags. Cleaning is a mix of scrubbing action, solvent action and flushing. My opinion is to always work on the carbon first. You need to eventually remove copper but taking all of it out just means having to foul the barrel a few shots to get it back to shooting "right". And it is more unnecessary effort that takes some of the fun out of shooting. There are plenty of good carbon solvents around. Butch's Bore Shine or, if you don't like the smell and prefer something far less toxic, get Mpro-7 (branded as Hoppe's Elite here in the U.S.) or KG-1. Sweets will work great on the copper, or the Mpro-7 copper remover, KG-12, etc. Wipeout is good, but I sure went through it fast. |

Wipe Out foaming bore cleaner. It will not harm your gun, you can leave it in overnight. Takes the work out of bore cleaning.

For carbon fouling I use Slip 2000 degreaser.
For the rest of the stuff I mostly use KG stuff except for occasional use of foaming bore cleaner when I have time to keep it in the bore. ILya

I'm sure this stuff works and works well, but I'm too impatient to wait on it to do it's thing.

The good thing about wipe out is I can use it at the range when I am ready to drive back to town and by the time I get home it has done it thing, I can then run patches through and a little oil and I am finished.

Yep. I am a Wipe-out fan myself. I put a gun on the cleaning rack, push some Accelerator down the barrel and then the Wipe-out. I will then let it sit for a while. Sometimes it will sit overnight depending on when I started. It works great for me. I do not like spending much time pushing patches through. I used to use Sweets but I cannot stand that smell. My wife gets irritated with me when I use it as well. I think my cat passed out once when he gave it a good wiff.
