Thoughts and comments regarding these two calibers. I had a .338wm that I just sold to a buddy and I'm looking to replace it with either of the two. It will be used for a possible moose hunt and other animals of the like. I know the 338wm would be just fine, but being a rifle crank I'm always looking for something new and different, Thanks. |

the rum is the ultimate, the wby from almost everything ive read is surprisingly well mannered. looking at my books though there isnt a lot of difference between the two on paper, brass and rifle costs may sway your choice some.

On paper the Rum looks better, but not alot of rifle choices from Big Green.

338-378Wby!!!! What a monster. A 250 gr. partition at 3060 and 5200 ft/lbs muzzle energy. Actually the .340 wby, or .338 rum are not far behind. Gotta throw the .338 Lapua in there just for good measure. I'm going to own a .338-378 wby some day, so I'm biased. I'm kind of into the Wby calibers too, so I'm biased again. Between the two you mentioned, I'd have a .340. But you know, Weatherby's are belted, have too much freebore, not accurate, yada, yada, yada.
couldn't help it.

I've traded and sold away many of rifles, but never a weatherby. Just something about them that brings me joy. |

I've shot the .378 and even necked down to .338, it won't be user friendly.

Not even considering anything off of .378 case. The .340 has plenty of powder for my taste, I also think that the accumark weighting aroung 9-1/2 -10 pounds scoped would ease recoil. |

A .340 Wby would be nice in an accumark. While mine is only a .300, it's a great rifle, and I'm pretty sure I'll die with it. I don't intend to let it go anytime soon. The RUM is nice too, and not belted, but if I was going to have one, I'd have to build it to get what I want.
