I've currently have a Vari X III 1.5x5 on a light weight Rem 700 375 H&H and it's worked well so far but I would like to have a little more magnification. I've got a VX II 2x7 available to put on this rifle but am not positive it will hold up to the recoil. This rifle is as I said, light weight and it bumps quick and hard. Actually quicker and harder by far than my 300 RUM when using full power loads in each of them and heavier bullets. The reason for more magnification is that the 375 is going to become a more used backup rifle and possibly one that will be used first for more critters in the future. I potentially would like to try this out on some possibly longer range situations with animals smaller than elk and I'm like a lot of others and have gotten accustomed to the higher mag variables that are in use these days.
Just wondering how the VX II holds up and suspecting as with all the Leupold's I've had it will be just fine. Eye relief is actually listed as a tad more although field of view would be a little less of course.
Thanks,

I think it'll be fine, leupold is known for their durabilty and they do have a great warrenty if something should go bad.

Yeah, their customer service is great. However, going out at the wrong time could be very aggravating to say the least!

Swarovski Z-6, 1-6x24 or 1.7-10x42. These scopes will take the recoil. Field of view is unmatched. Clarity of image is the best I have seen, equal to SuB or Zeiss. I personally like the color transmission of the Swaro coatings better than Zeiss Victory line. Warranted by SONA for life of owner.
I have a Swaro Z-6i on my own 375H&H, no regrets. For me it just doesn't get any better.
I have no experience with the VX-II line, I have never owned one. I would trade the two Leupolds and some coin for one of the Z-6 Swaros on the sample list. JMHO though.
Hope that helps.

By the way, Tulie, is the Rem 700 an XCR model? How does it group? |

I use , depending on what I hunt, Zeiss Diavari Victory 3-12x56 or Zeiss Conquest 2,5-8x32 on my Sako 85 SS .375 H&H. No problems with eye relief. This gun is a lightweight 7 pound tackdriver.

I put a FX3 6x42 Leupold with heavy duplex on my .375 H&H and I like it real well for a hunting rifle. I dont see much need for more magnification than 6x and you could probably live with a 4x but the fixed power scopes tend to hold up to abuse better than anything.

The V-II can certainly handle the recoil of the .375 H&H.
I also had a 1.5-5 Leo on my .375 H&H M700 and thought it was a good match for the rifle. |

The rifle is about a 2004 model and is a stainless with a synthetic stock 700 BDL. It's light, has a really good trigger and does shoot well. 1 to 1.5 inch groups, 3 to 5 shots at 100 yards are the norm with anything I've tried including factory stuff. This one seems to like 300 grain bullets and also likes some of the Barnes 250's. For some reason though, this one gets more velocity than it should. It also will make me wish for my 338 back after just a few shots!
Yeah, the Swaro's are fantastic, I had some bino's of theirs that got stolen and wish I had found that guy! I just don't want to drop the bucks into them at this point. I also like the Zeiss stuff very much. Got some older bino's and a Conquest that is very nice on my 300 RUM. I reckon I'm just nit picking with wanting something else with higher power and I'm sure the VX II will work I just wondered if anybody had problems with them on a heavier kicker. The Vari X III is fine as long as I don't try to reach out too far. I also have a start of an idea of another place to use the Vari X III so am trying to convince myself to play musical scopes again!
Thanks for the input!

the rifle wasnt sighted in, i load up some loads for bore sighting and get it close then i shoot my test groups. as long as they hit the paper im happy. when i get something like that where its a nice group i then adjust the scope for that load.
its suppose to be an orange spot, apparently my scanner didnt like the orange. Edited by pyro6999 - December/23/2009 at 09:56 |

Yeah, mine likes the Hornady 270's as well but I've been using 380 powder since I got mine. I want to try out some Varget and see what that will do. I've seen sub inch groups with the Sierra 300's and with the Barnes 250's. What got me though was the velocity I was getting out of everything. Seemed to be up to 100 fps higher than what I thought I would get. That's why I'm tempted to put a higher mag scope on it and try it out on some longer range stuff. It won't do what my 300 RUM will do at a long distance but it isn't bad and it thumps anything at any sane range. It's also quite a bit lighter than my RUM which makes it nice to carry but a little tougher on scopes and the shoulder when you squeeze the trigger. On the other hand, I never did believe in over kill so it fits the bill for about anything!
