Never have looked through the Zen's but tried the Monarchs and purchased an 8x42 Leupold Cascades and a Leupold 12x50 Mojave.  The Monarchs looked good but seemed a lower quality build.  The Cascades and Mojave are both made in Japan versus China for the Monarchs.  I still have and love the Cascades 8x42's (no longer being made) but returned the Mojaves.

The Mojaves were good but to my eyes had too much CA.  Looking at a patch of snow on a black roof in full sunlight, there was quiet a bit of violet fringing at the top edge of snow when the binoculars were moved down and green fringing at the bottom edge when the binoculars were moved up.

Can't compare with the Zen's but if I had it to do over again, I would still try to find a dealer that still had the Cascades in stock (mine were $299.00)

Sorry, I should have added this.

The Mojaves are the only binoculars that I have seen that advertise that they have "cold mirror coatings" or "cold mirror coated prisms".  This is supposed to "improve reflectiveness of the prisms for greater resolution and clarity".

They were nice and clear but not sure if this increased the CA or not.

The ZRS is one of the best binoculars in its price range and mine is better than my Monarch.  It pushes the more expensive Viper and Pentax SP pretty hard.

FWIW both Leupold glasses listed are better in my opinion than the Monarch.
