I'm going to order a new rifle scope but I'm having trouble deciding between the standard  plex versus the 4a reticle.  Just wondering how many people go with the 4a reticle?  It would seem that without the heavy line at the 12 o'clock position, it would "open up" the view in the scope more and at least give the "appearance" of a clearer picture. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I much prefer 4a to a standard plex reticle, but mostly because the three thik bars are usually substantially thicker than the thick bars in a plex reticle.  That helps in low light visibility.

I like the 4a as well but I do like the plex better for certain hunting situations.

Have a modified #4 in Victory Diavari, like it allot, especially in low light.

I know I am the thorn on this one but I prefer the original #4 because I am nostalgic but the 4a is an improvement for modern times...Man I dream of looking through the #4 with black and white vision "red around the black and white"

I like 4A better than plex given the choice, due to the thicker posts at 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if a given scope was only available with a plex and not 4A.

If you look at Zeiss' new web page they have a cool reticle page that allows you to put different reticles on different game with different light.

check it out,

Well, from what I heard they got a team of scope gurus together to design them (as it should be).  I do like the shorter eye piece (not sure what it is called) allows for easy mounting position, forward or back.

I have the 4A in a FFP scope. It is one of the best all around reticles I have for big game in any lighting conditions and at any range.

Thanks guys, the 4a it is. One of my favorite stores has the Swarovski AV series scopes at a very good discount and my biggest issue is deciding between the AV3-9x36 versus the AV3-10x42. And the 4a reticles run a few bucks cheaper than the plex!

I have the 4A from Premier Reticles on a Luepy 6x42 and it is my favorite.  These old eyes appreciate the thicker reticle.
