I have about $500-$600 to put into a new scope for whitetail hunting in the Southeast. Because of the wide range of shooting distances and light conditions, I will need a variable power with the best clarity within my price range.

I'm leaning towards either a Bushnell Elite 6500 series, or a Sightron SII Big Sky, but I can't find alot of reviews on either of these.

Any help or other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

On what gun is it going?

What caliber?

What ranges shooting?

How much of a gun is it? Light, medium, heavy kicker?
I lean towards the 6500. The 6X erector and very good glass make that a tough scope to not buy.
Of course, Weaver makes a nice one. Nitrex (Weaver) is pretty good from what I have heard. Then there's the new Redfields (Leupold) also. The Diamond back by Vortex is supposed to be a good one too. You can afford the Viper by Vortex also.
With Freedom comes great responsibility, you cannot have one without the other

Get the 3-9x42 ss and be done with it. It will give you the magnification that you want, will hold up to the recoil of a 50bmg, has great glass and falls right on your price range.

Anywhere from 50' to 400 yards. It will sit on either a Rem. 700 or TC Encore both are .308.

Here is a link to a review of a 6500 with mil dot reticule. I own one and like it.  90% of my shooting is at the range. but it works quite well in the field also.

The 6500 with obviously give you a broader zoom range, but the SS3-9 has very good glass and would work fine too.

If it were me, I'd lean toward the SS, but both are perfectly serviceable.
