I have an H&R in 45/70, it is a "primitive weapon" in Mississippi, even with glass, it is a great and "handy" rifle.

Mine wears an IOR 4X, tough as nails, always reminds me of my limited range.

You have no such limitation.

Personally, I'd go with the Vortex, their stuff is good for the money and seems to hold up well.

While the Timberline isn't a bad scope I would go with the 2-7 Burris FFII if you decide to go with Burris. http://swfa.com/Burris-2-7x35-Fullfield-II-Rifle-Scope-P5973.aspx
The 3P4 Reticle in that Scope would be outstanding for low light / dark woods hunting. Since you have no bolt you can put a flip-up cap on the eyepiece without worrying about it interfering with the bolt.
We measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon, and cut it with a chainsaw.

I'm from Wisconsin, and I can recommend Vortex, but only with the reservation that I've never owned one! (Yet.)
They are headquartered in Middleton, sort of a suberb on the west side of Madison.
I need to go down there and see the place and get to know them. A guy at the range last month told me they don't really have much of a showroom per se, but they do keep most of the models in stock at the office and are always helpful and willing to demonstrate them, etc.

Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35 is better than Timberline.

Vortex Diamondback is probably similar to FFII, but I have not looked at them side by side (yet).

Redfield Revolution promises to be pretty decent, but it is not available yet.

Either Burris Fullfield II or Vortex Diamonback would serve you well.

However, if you can stretch your budget a little bit, Vortex Viper 2-7x32 knock the socks of both of the above scopes:

There is a $50 rebate going on right now, so the Viper would only run you ~$250-$260.
