I might be getting in over my head here but I need to ask anyway.
I just finished mounting my 4-14x56 Springfield on my M1A. The install went straight forward. I made sure my rifle was perfectly level and plumb, mounted the rings and dropped in the scope. As I was rotating the scope to match its level with the rifle I noticed that the bubble was darn difficult to spot - it looked like it has grime or some dark material covering it and I could only see a very slight sliver of the bubble as I looked through the scope.
Is this something I can correct or do I just have to get use to it?

It's probably some sort of anti-reflective coating from the walls of the tube that flaked off and covered the level. You might be able to dislodge it with a sharp blow, but it may break something else. You can't disassemble the scope to clean it, you'll lose the nitrogen gas inside it and it will fog thereafter. Send it back.

Contact Springfield Armory and they will give you instructions. I have had no problems with my GenIII 6-20x56, but I called them a few years ago "just to check". They said they will stand by their guarantee and will repair or replace the scope...

I know I bought an NcSTAR at a gun show a year ago. There was a problem with it that I found out about o n the range - but NcSTAR replaced it with a new one.

As I remember, you must have the original sales receipt. Don't forget, SA got out of the scope business. These scopes are made by Hakko in Japan and were quite well made, for the most part. If you don't have the original receipt, I am sure they will charge you for repairs, but it is worth calling and asking. They were pushing some technological edges. Mine has spent most, almost all, it's time on my 7mmSTW and has been/is a superior scope.

Even if they charge you for repairs, the cost should be very minimal. The scope is well worth spending a little to get it back up to par. Don't quote me on this, but I would venture a guess of about $65 to clean and repair. Shipping a little extra.
