Some time ago Chris Farris posted a great item on the older Springfield scope instructions. I've managed to get my hands on one and am wondering about a suggested Zero range? The instructions don't discuss this - they talk about using the range estimation graphic in the scope but nothing about a starting range zero.

Thanks

it is a ballistic compensating reticle, you will need to adjust your loads to a standarized load in this case 168 gr 308 at about 2600 fps.

Pardon me for being dense - but do you mean that I use one standard 308 load (as you suggest) and adjust the strike of the round on the center cross hairs at some distance .... like 100 yards?

That scope is calibrated for 168gr Match ammo, zeroed at 200 meters...

Wow now I jave to find someplace to shoot. Are  there any suggested materials that will introduce me to rying to zerpo at that range? With mu last scope the range guy said tp start at 25 uards and once I had it tight groups I would be 2"  high at 100 yards

I hate to keep bumping this topic to the top but I have an inconsistancy in my understnding of how this scope works. A few replys back a Gent mentioned the scope was zeroed at 200 meters. That same info is in the factory instructions. Then why are the range finding reticles all in inches? It would make mose sence if it was zeroed at 200 yards wouldn't it? admittedly, using inches is easier for us but it just seems like they went to a lot of unnecessary calculations designing it to Zero at the 200 meter mark

You can zero at 200 yards and it will be in the "American system" or "English units", zero at 200 meters and use the metric scale, your choice...

I am happy to report that Springfield will give my scope a well baby check over and any needed  repairs and they still honor the original warranty. Also going to send my M1A back and have a new model scope mount installed by the factory. This should lower the scope about an inch and a quarter when mounted.

I kindly thank all of you gents who responded to my inquirys about this new toy of mine. There is always a learning curve with something new and it's reassuring that I can post here and get cogent information without risking a fire.

Congratulations... and it is good to know that they will take it without the receipt.  Springfield Armory has always held a special attraction for me.

Springfield has always done right by me too.

Their scopes had some interesting features, but they never caught on for a few reasons.

I was trying to avoid saying that, since the guy is so enthusiastic about his new scope.

However, I got a good one and have NEVER had a moment's trouble with it.  I've also heard that after they have been repaired, they are EXCELLENT.  I would say it's a win, win...

I've got one of the same model scopes that I am having a problem with. Is there a phone number or website I can go to in order to get my scope checked out by them?

SA farmed out any repairs of their scopes.  I've got the info around somewhere... I'll look for it.  Unless you are the original owner, proof required, they will not perform any warranty work.
