I have a winchester model 70 super shadow .25 wssm that shoots a terrible group.  At a 100yds a 5in group.  I really dont think its me.  I can take my .17 out and make the bullets touch at 100yds.  The scope on the is a Burris compact 3-9.  I dont know what to do besides throwing it away?

Cant reload.  I have tryed the 115gr bt and the 120gr.  No change.  The grouping has always been bad thing of trying to sell.

GOOD suggestion,as it could be a number of fixable things.  Besides,it's a .25 caliber and deserves a chance at life.  Bucky

If you really want to keep the rifle, don't be afraid to send it off to a reputable smith.

Ive been disappointed by it one to many times.  Dont trust it as far as i can throw it.  I was thing of stepping up in size.  But would get much for it to put into another rifle.

Just a thought but maybe contact Winchester to see what they'd do for you.  Those last M70's out of New Haven were abortions!  I've got one here that needs attention to the 3 position safety,BAD.

i traded mine for a remington 788 in a 22-250. the guy at the gun show said, you know your rifle isnt quite worth as much as mine. i said well then we probably wont be able to deal then cause i only have about $20 cash on me and no checkbook. he said well what were you thinking? i said trade straight across the board, he said well i really like your rifle. i said yeah i really like yours too, and he said ok lets do that then. i was surprised, but happy.

That's all that counts!  What cartridge was the M70 chambered for?  I just shortened an old Ram-Line M70 la stock, put a Winchester recoil pad on it,and put it on my M70 with a 4.75x40 GS scope.  I like it but it's hvy at 8 1/2lbs.

The trade it idea is probably a good suggestion. If you contact Winchester about it though they would likely do some repair work on it for you.  I bought a Win Coyote lite in 300 WSM and it would not extract and eject empty cases, I sent it back for repair and now it weakly brings the cases back and nudges them just barely out of the action. I'd trade it and my excuse would be that I wanted a different caliber. Try 7mm08 or .308 or whatever appeals to you.  This time of year you should be able to find a gun show with an internet search.

How many rounds have been down the tube on this rifle if I may ask?  Has anyone shot lots of rounds at one sitting? like maybe 60 to 100 rounds on a given Saturday without giving the barrel time to cool.  I have heard stories of 25 wssm eating a barrel after a shooting session like that but have never witnessed it myself.  Just something to think about.

I have only shoot around 150 rounds through it i think.  Never to many at a time.  I always give the barrel a few mins in between 3 rounds.  Never geting the barrel hot enough you could hold it.
