OK, I’ve mulled this over an decided I’m trying to do to much with one gun & scope.  My new tack is to put a new scope on the stubby 77/22 as a squirrel gun and buy a new .22 LR gun (still wrestling with CZ, Savige, Remington or Ruger) and scope for the range.  I’m still groping with something I don’t know too much about so I’m open to suggestion but, my short list for the squirrel gun for use usually inside 40 yrds is:
Burris 4-12x32 Mini/Compact AO 1/8
Leupold 3-9-33 VXII Rimfire AO E.F.R. 1/4
I’m leaning toward the Burris for the 1/8 adjustments.

My 'short' list for the range gun for use at 50 and 100 yrd.s is:
Burris 4-12x32 Mini/Compact AO 1/8
Leupold 3-9-33 VXII Rimfire AO E.F.R. 1/4
Burris 4.5-14x32 Short Mag AO 1/8
Weaver 6-20x40 Grand Slam Rifle 1/8
Bushnel 5-15x40 Elite 3200 AO 1/4
I’m leaning toward the Burris for the 1/8 adjustments.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Unless you are shooting from a solid position the 1/8 click will not help that much. Also there are very few combinations of rifle/22lr that will hold 1/8 inch, so one never nows if the standard deviation of spread is due to the ammo, the scope or the gun. I use the Leo 3-9 on a "target" Volquertsen which has a tapered Bentz chamber which will shoot the 1/8" with target ammo Ely, Federal etc. Problem is you can only use low velocity high quality ammo. no hot stuff.
