Premier has been working on scopes mostly replacing reticles on Leupolds etc for years and over time they have seen and responded to the need for a high quiality sniper scope. A couple of the guys here have them and like them a lot even better than the Nightforce and God Forbid better than the U.S. Optics which I find hard to believe but that is what I am hearing. They have very nice features. You will not be disappointed in a Premier or in the 10x HD. The most disappointing feature of the 10x 3200 is the lack of a parallax adjustment on that scope.

jonoMT - I paid $3500 new for the Barrett and scope with Barrett 1"/30mm rings and it is this very reason I do not have a lot of money left over for a scope and ammo to shoot. I do not have unlimited funds and was lucky enough to save up for the BArrett.
Here in Arizona there is a lot of places where 1 or 2 miles is nothing except a nice challenge for some long range shooting. I am interested in ranges from 300 yards to 1500 yards, most shooting at 1000 than 300 or 1500 but I would like to have the power scope wise to go to 1500. Is a 10 power with mildot enough power for those ranges? If so I will go with the 10x42HD. I know the NF in 5.5x22x56 will be better at those ranges but is it as durable? I can get the NF used for about $1100 anymore monet and I will have to go with the SS 10HD. Is the 3200 10x40 Elites that Barrett puts on his Barretts any different than a standard 3200 Elite? Anyone interested in this Elite? < id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall;" id="jsProxy" =""> |

A used NF 5.5-22 for $1100 is a great deal, take it (assuming you know the seller and you know the scope to be in good working condition.)
Do you have experience at long range shooting? 1,000 yards is a long shot, with many, many variable to consider. Minor errors masked by 100-yard or 300-yard shots show quite true at 800+. Though it might not be what you want to hear, I'd sell the Barrett (you'll probably make every penny back) and buy something that you can afford to shoot. At $5+ a round for .50-cal ammo, I'd recommend a 300WM or 300RUM if you want the biggest pecker at the range. A 300WM will reach out to 1,000 yards, and do it much cheaper than a .50 cal. If you decide to keep the Barrett, I'd say save up for a scope that will do what you want. The 10X HD is a good fit, but not ideal for 1500 yard shots. (Though, if you aren't already a great shooter, 1500 is going to be almost impossible. If you are going to spend $3500 on a rifle, why top[ it with a $200 scope? Kinda like buying a Ferrari and putting on 13" budget tires. |

Rancid Coolaid - Thanks for the input and everyone else also. Winchester 300 UM at $32 is half what I paid for quality 50BMG but I like the bullet options you can get with the 50 that you can never get with any other round and it is not like I will be running through rounds like it was a 5.56. Seems like 300 RUM Trophy Bonded is about what 50BMG goes for.
I definitely do not plan on keeping a $200 scope on this rifle and most likely will get the SS 10x42HD and sell the 3200 Elite. I do not know the guy who is selling the NF 5.5x22x56 and he never answered my question about how much torque he used to mount the scope. I am no longer considering it because his reason for selling it does not make much sense either. I am afraid that while NF has a life time warranty it is only for their defects and not if someone overtightens the scope, etc.
I have to admit I am not totally comfortable buying a scope for a serious rifle that I never heard of before. And it is true it is made by Tasco but I do believe I will speak to Chris this weeek and buy it. It is a comfort knowing it has a Navy contract number- these are not given out everyday if they are not earned?
One last question/comment- the last time I bought an optional lifetime warranty the company went out of business. If SWFA closed would Tasco cover this scope? I know this is not really an important consideration but I am curious.
