Coming soon to a range... somewhere

I zeroed the 7mmSTW with the Springfield Armory Gen III 6-20x56 first (change of rings to Millet Angle-Locs).  Took five rounds, last three were in one hole.  However, all my work was at 25yards today.  I never made it to the longer ranges.  Second, I zeroed the .458 WinMag using ammo that was provided with the rifle when I bought it.  It was pretty darn dead on.  I made a 4click left adjustment (this rifle wears the Pentax 4x Gameseeker) after the first round and sent 3 into the same hole dead center.  One of the guys at the range was standing looking at my target when I walked down to tape the holes and said "If I hadn't just watched you shoot this, I would say you cut that hole there."  Tomorrow I am going to try out some ammo loaded for me by our very own BigDaddy.  By now there were about 20 people at the 25yard range.  I zeroed the .458 Lott next.  1st round was a little low and right.  I adjusted the iron sight a little and next 3 rounds were about .5in low but dead center.  I called it good.  There were about 30 people at the 25 yard range now, 1/2 under 15.  Turns out the youth hunt is next weekend and they were getting calibrated.  I won't comment more than to say I think it is great that there are guys who will take on the task of taking kids to the range and then taking them hunting... negative training notwithstanding.  

Lastly, I brought out the Anzio Iron Works .50BMG with the Super Sniper 10xHD.  Lots of "oooohs and aaaahhs".  It does look pretty impressive, if I do say so.  My fixture I made for laser boresighting needs some work.  First shot was EXACTLY where the laser was... high 3.5 inches, right 3 inches.  I dialed it back and the scope is very near "mechanical zero".  I shot a few rounds and attracted about half of the crowd from the 100 yard/200 yard range.  It was way too easy, so I went to the group of kids and asked who the best shooter was.  One stepped up and I asked his father if it was OK for him to shoot the .50.  Father agreed, but the kid wouldn't shoot it.  Said he didn't want to.  I fired a couple of rounds to show him it wouldn't hurt him, but he still wouldn't shoot it.  Then I asked who was the worst shooter and a kid stepped up and said today was his first time to ever shoot.  I put him on the rifle, talked him through addressing the rifle, sighting through the scope, setting the trigger and going from safe to fire, expected recoil and turned him loose... and he hit just about 3 inches high and about a 1/4 inch left of dead center at 50 yards, about as good a shot as can be made with that rifle.  That was one happy kid and so was I.  I think he is going to be a great shooter someday and he now loves the sport more than I think anyone else on earth.  He was floating the last time I saw him.  I packed up and left the zoo shortly after that, but I had a great day.  That one shot was worth the whole trip to me.  If nothing else had gone well, it still would have been one of the best range days I've ever had.  

 I didn't get to do much with the SS, other than shoot the 50 with it on there.  The scope adjusts easily, accurately, quickly.  It "felt" good and I have great confidence in it.  The glass is VERY good.  I look forward to shooting with it again soon, but have to get to the range even earlier so I can avoid the "throng".  That many people hauling rifles around makes me "antsy".  Especially when I see how they shoot.  I would bet a lot that this session is all the shooting over 1/2 of them do every year.  

Apologies for the brevity and lack of real detail.  It was way to easy at 25 yards to have much to write.  The kid was the high point.

Anybody who shoots half a hundred .458 in an afternoon, for fun, from a bench, scares me a little!
