They were the same price for a long time. Probably just supply and demand. SWFA must need to move more of them so they dropped the price a bit.
Reticles are the same in all three original SS scopes. |

Reason I ask for down tube photos is such.
If the magnification is greater, then the reticle itself must increase in size for one mil, etc to remain one mil. I am concerned about bulkiness of the reticle over target. This optic will be used for varmint hunting such as wood chuck which around here can be a decent distance... 200 - 400 yds... down to 50 yds... At those distances I prefer the critter to fill up as much of the sight window as possible and thus I tend to gravitate toward higher power optics. Currently I have mounted a 6.5 - 20 x 40 AO Vari-X III but without turrets and with a fine duplex I don't like to use it for long range shooting where i need to dial in elevation and windage. For what Leupold wants to charge to change to a Mil Dot and turrets I can purchase quite a bit of new glass... |

rootsy I can e-mail you some photos of mil-dot reticles that are accurate 8x, 10x, 12x, 14x, and 20x if you think it'll help you with your decision. I try to keep a photo archive of all the reticle/through the scope pictures I find. |

I bought one 20x several years back and I recently purchased another and it is quite acceptable so long as it is bright daylight. When the sun starts to go down it will look noticable grey but so will any 20 power scope with a 42mm objective and even a 50mm doesnt help much to get a bright image you need something like a 6x42 in dim light, but in bright light it is very nice. As for the reticle it is just fine it is not so thick that it would not provide precision and not so thin that it would get lost in low light. Right now its a bargain. The 10x is the fastest selling model.

If you want a variable you might look at the Sightron SIII they make a high magnification variable that is nice.

"why the price difference..."
SWFA is the sole source for the Super Snipers, and probably orders several thousand of each model from the manufacturer at a time. My guess is was said already, supply and demand. The slower movers are probably priced slightly lower, as an incentive. Just a guess. |
