I just purchased a new ruger no 1 in 270 and looking for a nice scope.  I have been reading on the site about the AV series having some trouble.  can someone explain to me if this is real.  I have tried a google search but didnt find anything.  I am not trying to start any "my scope is better than your scope" talk but just want to know if there is any issues with the AV series or if i should move to the Z3 or Z5.

thanks

I've got two AV scopes... one is about 3.5 years old, the other about 2. I have had zero issues. They are wonderfully bright clear and light to boot. I love them.

Having never used the Z3 or Z5, I cannot say.  I have an AH and it is great.  I've shot PHs and Z6s and they too are great.

I have heard reports of durability issues with AV's on the internet as well, including some reports on this site.  I haven't personally had any problems with the 2 AV's I own, but these reports have worried me some.

All I can say is I've had a 3-9X36 on a lightweight 7WSM for 2 years and a 3-10X42 mounted on a .300 Win Mag for 7 years, and both have worked perfectly for me.  Optically, there's no question they are outstanding.

No complaints from me or the 3-10x42 mounted on a .280

I love the ballistic reticle. I have the AV 4-12x50 on top of a light weight 300 wsm. I got my load data all figured out for the reticle, and shot an antelope at 490 yds last week and the reticle was spot on.

I have no AVs, only PHs, but any dealings I've had with Swaro CS have been very good.

thanks for the replies.  I can find a new AV 4-12 BR for 999 or 799 on this site.  Do you know if the sample list scopes have a warranty?

I have had a 4-12x42 AH on a .280 Rem Browning A-Bolt BOSS for 6 years without issue.  I shoot the rifle quite a bit and the BOSS is reputedly a scope eater, but no issues with my AH.
