I personally don't know of any rifle manufacturer that is chambering this cartridge in their factory production line. Even tho' it is a very popular 300 meter round over in Europe, and Lapua produces factory loaded ammo in 6.5X47. But, if you've got a Remmy 700 short action, their are dozens of quality riflesmiths who will square/blueprint that action, and then cut you a chamber, thread, and crown any barrel, (preferably custom) of any contour, then bed it into any stock of your choice, and you will have a quality built 6.5X47 Lapua weapon. It is becoming very popular here in the states for 600 yard matches. I also know that it feeds very well from a magazine, if you want it to be a repeater. I have a few friends who shoot the 6.5X47 Lapua, and they do very well in competition, and on live ground-hogs as well.

I don't believe that they were designed for LONG RANGE. (800 yards and up) Don't get me wrong, guys shoot them at 1000 yards, but they don't have enough "boiler room" for pushing a high B.C. pill like the Sierra 142 gr MatchKing. With a fast twist bbl, you can stabilize the 142 gr slug, but velocity drops pretty quick at 1000 + yards. You can shoot lighter 6.5 projectiles, but you lose the B.C. Now the 6.5X284 is a highly competitive cartridge @ 1000 yards because the case capacity allows you more room, for more powder, to drive the heavy bullets at higher velocities, thus giving you LESS wind drift and drop than the smaller 6.5X47. I think the 6.5X47 Lapua with a 130 gr pill is a force to be reckoned with @ 300-600 yards for competition shooting.

I believe Blackbird is far more correct here than the Military Channel is.
He nailed it.

The best write-up on the new 6.5mm cartridges 6.5x47 Lapua and 6.5Creedmoor that I have seen is by Zak Smith (I think cheaptrick has linked his website here before so I hope it is OK that I am doing so now):
Personally, I was leaning toward getting a barrel for my Savage chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor (based on easy availability of Hornady ammo and load data), but I may end up going with 6.5x47 Lapua instead since Shilen makes reasonably affordable barrels chambered for 6.5x47. ILya

I have never seen the Military Channel program about the 6.5x47 Lapua, and I don't deny what they reported. I just personaly think that the 6.5x47 Lapua is a great round for mid-range target shooting, and hunting up to medium/large sized big game critters. From antelope to whitetails, and mullies to black bear, this cartridge will harvest all of the above, and can kill an elk "deader than dead", with the proper bullet and shot placement. What is there not to like. The small rifle primer makes it a very efficient round just like the 6BR Norma. Great Lapua brass makes it a handloaders dream. I'm just saying that if you are competing @ 1000 yards, the 6.5x47 is comparable to the .308 Win, in that, they will BOTH get you on target, but you are at a disavantage for windage and bullet drop. For that reason alone, the 6.5x.284 and the .300 WSM are in comparison, better for doping the wind, and have less bullet drop, making it easier to get on target @ 1000 yards. My next heavy target gun (13.5-20 lbs, our club rules) which are shot out to 500 yards, will be chambered for the 6.5x47 Lapua, throated for 130 gr Berger VLD's.
