I have a SS 16X. Has any one put washers under the turret for a zero stop?
Recommended / not recommended?
Will an O ring on the outside of the turret housing work better. I need something to help me out.
I was shooting from 200 to out to 600 yds learning my drop and just finished up a string at 600yds. A friend was interested in the scope. Was routing through my range bag and looked up as he was twisting my elevation knob. The next words spoken were I forget where you had it. I hadn't written down how many marks were visible from my 200 yd zero. Needless to say I learned a lesson. I plan on shooting matches that range from 200 to 600 yards and do not want to brain lock and forget where zero is at in the heat of the moment as well.
Thanks

not sure on the ss but most scope makers do not recommend using washers and in fact will void their warranty. As the turret is turned down against the washer it applies excessive torque on the assembly. Really good zero stops are finely milled clutchs that can be set at any depth for a stop its just that "zero" is more convienent. The horizontal lines on the turret housing are usually 4 or six lines , and the zero after its set is usually about 1/2 of these (2 or 3)

The best thing to do, is once you have your zero count the clicks or MOAs all the way down to the bottom and write them in your log book. Do the same thing to the right or left on windage and write it down. That happens to everyone at one time or another and if you have it written down in your book it only takes a few seconds to fix your error.

Ripstop, you might be interested in this...
I use this method and with my zero marked on a handy card, I can rezero anytime, anywhere. I also use the SS 16x and it works great.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies.
Dale,
Thanks for not letting me ruin my scope. That was what was actually recommended to me. Never thought about putting alot of torque on the internals.
Supertool73,
Thanks for the tip, something so simple and I don't have to remember the number of lines showing.
Trays 7940,
I will have to check one out sometime.

I have used a couple of things a couple of rubber O rings covering up the lower marks but you always wonder and best yet a small piece of tape which shows the level of the correct O mark. With my variable and plus 30 moa base I have exactly one full turn down below the zero to where it bottoms out so its really easy to find on that one.
