Should I crimp my .223 rounds for my AR?
I plan on FLS all brass, but is it neccesary to crimp for semi autos?

I would if it may someday be used for serious purposes, but I seldom do anymore with my plinking or target ammo, and have never had any issues. I guess it would depend somewhat on how smoothly your rifle/magazines tend to feed. I think if it tends to shove the bullet nose against the barrel extension/locking lugs upon feeding, you may want to put a bit of crimp on them.

You certainly don't need to worry about the bullet getting set back in a round in the magazine with .223 recoil. which is the reason to crimp that is most often given when loading heavy hunting ammo in dangerous-game cartridges, where it can and does happen.

edited to add: all those words after the comma in the last sentence!

I've never crimped any 223 rounds for my AR.  I haven't had any problems, although I've only got about 300 rounds through the gun.Big Smile

My 223 reloads go through semis. I also use a Lyman M-die instead of a neck expanding button, so I taper crimp to remove the slight neck expansion from the M-die. I figure the sized neck with a slight taper crimp should be enough to hold the bullet for most anything.

I have put several thousand reloads through my ARs and never crimped and never had a problem.

I use a lee factory crimp on mine. I didnt used to but if nothing else it may be an extra way to prevent moisture from gettin in over time hopefully.  I do use primer sealant on all my reloads now because there is no telling how long they may have to be stored.
