Would like to put an optical sight on a redhawk 45 lc. Will be useing Weaver adapter andwoluld be used for load development and hunting at ranges<100yd. I think the holographics have the advantage of lower inertia/lower weight, but guess the reddots are better sighting apparatus. I really have no experience with either. Truglow has an inexpensive holograph that looks pretty streamlioned.. Would appreciate any advice here. The reason for the optic is creaping OFD or old farts disease---harder to see anything such as iron sights.

I've used both, holos and red dots, but never on a handgun. And I know nothing of the handgun-specific units.
But, I will say that dots tend to be finer aiming points simply because they are well-defined dots. Holographic sites are created by pixels and they aren't as well defined (in my experience.) For quick on-target shooting, holos are great. For slightly more precision, red dots are better. And, again, this may be all completely wrong in the handgun site game, but it's what little I know from using Aimpoint, EoTech, Burris, Vortex, (red dots and EoTech.) |
