Well this will help ya in the thickets, I almost bought the Remington Model 700 Stainless Special 5R Milspec awhile back. I talked myself out of it cause its to damn heavy, close to 9 lbs. It was suggested to me by Wes to cut it down to 18 or 20" by Wes.. This was to lighten it up some, plus make it handier to use....
I do not see your 308 on the Winchester web site.. Do they not make your rifle anymore? In fact I did not any tactical rifles.

Well, Whatever version it is I like it cut down. I think it will make a really great Huntin Rifle! From what Ive read about cutting down these barrels, at least on 308's it does not affect the velocity all that much..Unless you were shooting competition or something. Hunter read this article if you want-http://www.sniperschool.com/sniper-rifle-barrel-length/

im from the old school, i like a longer barrel, which is why you will never hear about me cutting anything down. i can understand why mark did what he did. with the use of magnums like i use i like to have all the length i can to ensure im burning most of my powder too.

J, it's a LH Varmint Synthetic and they've been discontinued for some time now.
Stock is a H-S Precision and came factory with the rifle when I bought her new from a gent in Kali.
