I have a couple friends who use the 1.5-5x versions. One on an AR, the other an AK variant. So far they have held zero and served their purpose. Glass quality is so so. But for a day time plinking scope I think they would be fine.

Personally I would get a Weaver or Leupold rimfire scope if it were me. They will be more sleek for the small gun. That 1.5-5x Sightron is a big 30mm scope, with massive variable eye relief. Unless you are planning on making sight adjustments all the time, which if that is the plan I would get a scope that is a little more proven track record of reliable adjustments.

You could also go this way. I am personally not a fan of BSA scopes, but I have heard people say that these work pretty well. http://swfa.com/BSA-Sweet-17-Riflescopes-C47.aspx

I tend not to think of a 17 hmr as a tactical rifle. It could benefit from some target knobs but unless you have adjustable parallax (side focus, rear focus, front parallax) the scope will be set for a parallax of 100 yds more than likely unless it is a rimfire scope. The 2-7x28 Weaver is a very nice rimfire scope. Want a real tactical scope ont the 17 put a Super Sniper on it.
