going to buy my swarovski z6i 2-12x50 this week... I was really leaning towards the 4a reticle, but since I do want to hunt in europe (ibex, red stag) and maybe africa, I was curious if the swaro br-i wouldn't be better? it's for a 30-06...
thanks, John

Unless you're using a 30-30, yes. You don't need anything fancy for 300 yds.

The 4a illuminated on a 30-06 should be ideal I would zero it at 200 and know where it hits at 100, 300 and carry a copy of the trajectory info for the load I use at least to 600 yds just to have an idea how far to hold over if it is needed. You will be fine with this set up.

For a .30-06 zeroed at 200 yards will only shoot 6" or so low at 300 yrds. That should not be an issue for the 4-a reticle.

Assuming a load like a 165gr bullet/2800 fps or a 180gr bullet/2700 fps you could zero out more like 260-280 yards and be inside an 8" kill zone out to 325 yards. Get the velocity of your cartridge and use a ballistics calculator like JBM to determine your zero.
