Ed arrives to take advantage of Cash for Clunkers program. It appears it is one horsepower vehicle with "very high gas milage." Here is how I see it.
Our country is going into debt to make these payments. The citizens are destroying assets with "real value" in order to get a new car... and something like 95% of citizens are borrowing money to complete the transaction.... adding ADDITIONAL debt to their financial situation. The "recycling" of the parts and steel is a wash, just like any recycling transaction I guess. Dealerships/auto makers get to move some inventory now instead of later.. which theoretically only impacts the bottom line profits by the timing difference.... having minimal impact on profitability. Is there really a stimulation as a result of this process? I guess so? I suppose if there is then one could argue that the additional debt to do this is "worth it".... but I am going to require some explanation before I understand that aspect. Is their an environmental improvement with it? What is the net gain from the change? What about the costic chemicals put in the car to destroy it? What happens when that leaks out in transit? I guess there is a net gain in environmental benefits I guess I assumed the consensus was that you are better off environmentally to consume vehicles that already exist rather than to impact the environment by creating a whole new vehicle to replace it? So basically our country is going into debt in order to destroy our own assets. Isn't that what this is? Here is a youtube of a car being destroyed.... as our country goes into additional debt in order to do so. Volvo Cash for Clunkers Engine Disabling Am I reading this wrong? The story on the cart....

The majority of cars bought on this program are foreign. Don't waist any more money. Let the car companies pay for it.

Program wasn't designed to help consumers, just drive them deeper into debt. It helps the auto manufacturer and allows them to keep they bad business models!
