The Harmmerli X2 is nice and it comes with both .177 and .22 cal exchangeable barrels.
They run around $225.

Ruger makes one that I was looking at that seemed quite reasonably priced and had higher velocity than several of the more expensive ones. Other than that the Benjamim pumps have been around for a long long time.

I've had a Benjamin pump but it is doa currently so I have been looking. The 177 has higher velocity and I suspect it is a better choice.

Sam Yang Big Bore 909S .45 Cal 780 FPS
there was a guy who posted here a couple years back who had one of these and was after a scope for it - he used it to hunt with -- says it fires a slug for a 45 long colt.
works off some high pressure pump or compressed air tank like scuba tank. Edited by Urimaginaryfrnd - July/16/2009 at 20:27 |

http://www.quackenbushairguns.com/ I looked at these for a while...I think they were about $500. It makes for interesting reading, if nothing else.

I would suggest an RWS or Beeman in many flavors. The .177 is great for target and plinking.
Since you can afford $500, I would seriously consider a Diana RWS in .177. It will be very accurate and it has enough power for some of the larger pests like crow. It will take out those scavengers with a body shot. I only have one .177 and they are accurate by nature. If you want to take bigger critters along with your plinking I would look at a .22. Pellets are cheap like the smaller bore but carry more energy down range. I also have a nice 5mm with aperature sites that is a great shooter. The pellets are similar in price and the twenty cal rocks, too. I can't post pics right now but if you get back with me I can ship you some pics of what fine springers are capable of, Jeff. Doug |

The 177.is faster but the .22 has a lot more stopping power. It will out shoot a .177 at ranges over 40 yds. On the .177 the type of pellet is a lot more critical. I prefer the Beeman silver arrow. It is a medium weight but it is longer with lands or baffles around the center giving a better seal to the barrel. They tend to be much more stable in flight.
