I have a new 375 Ruger coming and in line with JB's excellent article at the top I have decided that I want a fixed power. So I am considering a couple of scopes that I do not have any experience with and want to see if anyone has experience with either.
Front runner is the IOR Valdata 6x42
it has a large field of view which I really like
Or the same scope in the Tactical version
which is heavier and has a smaller field of view but has the turrets and the MP-8 reticle.
The other choice would be the Meopta
which has a smaller field of view but is cheaper.
I just don't have any experience with IOR or Meopta.
Of course, I will buy from SWFA because their service is best and prices are cheapest!

ior makes a pretty nice scope robert, talk to cyborg and supertool as well as koshkin for more info.i would be tempted to buy the 4x ior instead of the 6x myself, but i hunt in dark timber so my needs may be different from yours.

Sako....................You may want to check out the Meopta`s listed eye relief. No listing for that now, but it did previously show only 3" or thereabouts for the Meoptas. Good enough eye relief for a 375 Ruger???
The IOR`s listed eye relief is better at 3.5 inches, but is that still going to be enough for the 375 Ruger???
Just a couple of thoughts!.....................

Hey guys, thanks for the replies
Both of the IOR's list 4" for eye relief, the Meopta is 80mm which is 3.2"
The field of view for the Hunter version IOR is 29', the tactical version 24' and the Meopta 23.1'. Now in the 4x scopes the IOR 4x has the same FOV as the 6x Hunter at 29' and the Zeiss 4x has a FOV of 26.1'.
This is according to the manufacturer website and there is conflicting data on SWFA so I'm thinking the manufacturer is probably correct.
One thing about the tactical IOR is the weight. It has a steel tube and the weight is 22 oz whereas the Hunter IOR only weighs 16 oz because it has an aluminum tube. I'm not worried about carrying the extra weight because this will be a heavy rifle but a heavier scope puts more stress on the mounting system.
For some reason a 4x doesn't float my boat. I will be hunting mostly out of stands that can offer a 300 yd shot at dawn and dusk.
Here's a breakdown so far:
SCOPE / EYE RELIEF / FOV / WEIGHT
6x IOR Hunter / 4" / 29' / 16 oz
6x IOR Tactical / 4" / 24' / 22 oz
6x Meopta / 3.2" / 23.1' / ??? (500 something or others)
4x Zeiss / 4" / 26.1' / 13.75 oz
4x IOR Hunter / 3.75" / 29' / 14.5 oz
Any experience with the glass and clarity of the IOR or Meopta?

I like my IOR 2.5-10x42 Tactical variable, but the MP8 reticle (as you are considering in the tactical version of the 6x), would not be my first choice for a general-purpose hunting reticle unless it were limited to long-range antelope or caribou hunting. Not bad, but a little too "busy"...
I wanted to get a 4X IOR hunting model with the post reticle, but IOR has discontinued US availability of that reticle for lack of sales.

I know where IOR could sell another one. I'd like to get something more up to date to replace my Weaver Micro-Trac K-4 w/post and crosshair.

Earl, you and I both. I'd love a good tough 4X with glass as good as IOR and a heavy post reticle.
It would have no need for illumination for the reticle to show up nicely in low light.
I'd want a solid post 4 or 5 minutes wide that just touches a relatively fine crosshair, (and no crosshair at all would also be quite acceptable.)

I'd go with either the 4X IOR or the 4X Zeiss Conquest myself. I'm partial to the 4X Conquest, since I own one and love it, but I own a variable IOR that I've been pleased with as well, and I'm sure a fixed power IOR would be durable.
Either way, for that rifle, I think 4X is perfect! |

A couple months ago, after checking SWFA's display which didn't yet feature a reticle graphic for that model, I went to Valdada's website to check out specs. They had a "BUY NOW" banner of some sort obscuring the view of the post reticle graphic. Since I really wanted to know exactly what their version of a post reticle looked like, I phoned them and asked them to describe it to me. I was told: "Oh, we don't import post reticle scopes anymore. They don't sell." I'm not sure if he meant that they are still made but not imported or if production has been suspended...
Despite all that, thanks for the heads up Sakomato, but your one-dollar 'finder's fee' is absolutely outrageous!

Bummer, that looks like just what you were looking for.
The place that has the most IOR's is A_C_T_I_O_N C_O_N_C_E_P_T_S. If Chris can't get it for you maybe they can.
