Where did you find these?  I'm taking it that it wasnt your foot from the comment.  Sure looks painful. Looks like a large bore rifle from the powder burns on the boot.

Accubond, 30 cal?

Seen a lot of guys put the barrel on their foot to keep the mud off.  Done it a couple times myself, but learned fast from my dad that was a bad choice.  Guess those pictures prove it.

That was a shotgun blast, not a bullet. He probably rested the muzzle on his foot, and accidently pulled the trigger when lifting the gun upward.  He's actually pretty fortunate that it was contacting the boot when it discharged, vs. a foot or two away from it.

Not safe gun practice for sure.  I think it was just the way they were holding it when talking in a group.  Point it at the ground to be safe, but didn't want to hold the full weight of the gun.  Stick it on the toe to keep it off the ground.  Guess they had their reasons, but it was not safe.  I did it a couple time when I was young, and my dad corrected me.  He was great and strict about gun safety.  I still thank him for it.

These pictures should stay to remind all of us about the seriousness of gunsafety.

My dad had a similiar experience. Rested his rifle barrel on his foot, but with the added weight his foot sunk a bit deeper into the grass. He still had his finger on the trigger, safety off. The shot (with a 300H&H) went between his toes but no lasting damage was done. He (or any of us kids) ever did that again!

Might be graphic but sometimes people have to be knocked on the head, hard, to get a point across - up to you guys but I vote with 8, let it stay.

We had a guy at our pistol range the other day. He drew his pistol and pulled the trigger before it cleared his holster. The bullet ran down his leg and entered and exited his jeans 8 times! This is through the folds etc as the pants was hanging down his leg. The bullet then hit the eyelit of the boot (for the laces) and drove that through the side of his foot. We had to get the paramedics in. Fortunately nothing life threatening and after they removed lead and bits and pieces of boot out of the wound he was OK.

I saw this picture on the Hide the other day. As I remember it; the guy was drawing a .45 with his finger on the trigger. Guess what happened.
As for resting the muzzle of a rifle (or any other firearm) on your foot, you have to ask yourself "do I want to destroy that body part" (never point a weapon at anything you are not willing to destroy).
I was at a night fire course as one of the instructors. The students were drawing shooting,  reholstering, and strping in. During one drill, I heard a shout "I've been shot", of course a cease fire was called. A student (old cop) put his finger on the trigger before the draw and shot the instructor behind him in the shoe. The bullet just creased the side of the instructor's foot, so no real injury was done to anything but feelings. Guess what was emphasized from there on out.
I say let the picture stay!!!!! It's a great reminder about safety!
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Got the same email and it said happened with a loaded shotgun on a trap range.  Either way, safety was not first and this guy is lucky he only has a chewed up big toe and not missing his entire foot.
